Building Financial Clarity Through Real-World Experience

What started as a small consulting practice in Toowoomba has grown into something we never quite expected. Back in 2019, we were helping local businesses make sense of their numbers — spreadsheets that told stories but needed someone to translate them.

The requests kept coming. Not just for quick fixes, but for people who wanted to understand the process themselves. That's when we realized something important: the best financial models aren't just tools — they're bridges between confusion and confidence.

How We Got Here

2019 - The Beginning

Started with three local businesses who needed help making sense of their financial projections. Spent countless evenings in coffee shops, sketching out models on napkins before building them properly.

2021 - Teaching Moment

A client asked if we could teach their team instead of just delivering the finished model. That first workshop was messy, but something clicked — people wanted to learn, not just receive.

2023 - Structured Learning

Developed our first formal program after realizing that financial modeling isn't just about Excel skills — it's about thinking through problems systematically.

What Drives Our Approach

These principles shape how we think about financial education and why we believe everyone can build better models.

Reality First

We use actual business scenarios, not textbook examples. Every model we teach comes from real situations where the numbers mattered to real people making real decisions.

Understanding Over Mechanics

Anyone can copy formulas. We focus on why you're building something, what assumptions you're making, and how to test if those assumptions hold up in practice.

Collaborative Learning

The best insights come from working through problems together. Our programs create space for questions, discussion, and those "aha" moments that happen when people share their thinking.

What We Bring to the Table

  • Six years of hands-on consulting with businesses from startups to established operations across Queensland and beyond
  • Experience building models for everything from restaurant expansions to manufacturing cost analysis to service business projections
  • A practical approach that balances thoroughness with usability — models that people actually use instead of filing away
  • Teaching methods developed through trial and error, refined by feedback from hundreds of workshop participants
  • Deep understanding of how financial models fit into broader business decision-making processes

The Person Behind the Programs

Kalinda Thornfield, founder of Bridgenodepoint

Kalinda Thornfield

Founder & Lead Instructor

Started building financial models out of necessity — consulting clients needed better ways to understand their numbers. Discovered that teaching others to build their own models was more rewarding than building them alone. Still gets excited about a well-structured sensitivity analysis and believes that financial modeling is really about clear thinking made visible.
